37. Ady Briers

Ady Briers

Born and schooled in Melbourne Ady was one of the year first to go to the newly built Chellaston School. On leaving school he took an apprenticeship as a machinist at Rolls Royce until at 21 the wanderlust took hold.

Ady travelled all round Europe selling ice cream on the beach in France, Spain, Portugal and also travelling to Gibraltar, Germany and Holland.

He started playing rugby for Melbourne in the early days in 1982. In 1983 aged 22 Ady joined the Army in the Armoured Reconnaissance Regiment and continued his rugby in the Army.

After the Army Ady rejoined Rolls Royce as an Inspector for Repairs and Overhaul.

Back home in Melbourne Ady resumed playing rugby for Melbourne, daughter Alice played for the Melbourne Minxes and now grandson Leo’s prowess on the rugby field is keenly awaited. Not quite ready for the M & Js yet though.
