35. Kev (Tucker) Iliffe

Born in Melbourne and educated in Melbourne Kev was in the first year of Chellaston School when it opened.

After school he joined the Army at 16, serving with the Grenadier Guards. Kev played rugby for the Army and for Melbourne when home on leave. Kev’s Army career took him to Germany and Northern Ireland. Growing up in Melbourne and returning to the village, rugby resumed with Melbourne.

When he left the Army Kev became a firefighter for Rolls Royce and on the retained rota at Melbourne. Kev, already a member of the Royal British Legion since the age of 16, became involved in the Ceremonial aspects of the RBL in 1997. He entered Standard Bearer competitions and became the East Midlands Regional Standard Bearer, and the RBL National Standard Bearer, representing the RBL as a Standard Bearer in many countries around the world, of which Kev is rightly very proud.

Kev was selected in 2009 for a three year post as Deputy National Parade Marshal, promoted to RBL National Parade Marshall in 2012, This post has seen Kev involved in much of the preparation and organisation of the annual Remembrance Days in London at the Cenotaph and Whitehall with 10,000+ veterans on parade, and the Festival of Remembrance at the Albert Hall.

Probably the most high-profile event of all being the recent funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. The eyes of the world watching, more than on any previous occasion, the unerring sense of duty and attention to detail that encapsulates Kev was apparent and obvious. Melbourne and MRFC is rightly proud of you Kev.

On a lighter note, Kev remembers the old rugby days where players regularly played for the opposition in order to make a proper game of it. Probably still happens in the 3rds.
