Minxes show grit and determination against strong Welsh opposition

An excited coach full of Minxes and parents left Chellaston Academy on Saturday morning on route to Swansea for their 2018/2019 tour. The first challenge for tour organiser Rachel was getting everyone through Strensham services "herding cats" springs to mind with some opting for Costa and others McDonalds ! The girls appeared to love the coach journey more than the parents, especially those sat in the middle of the coach who had three different sound systems playing at different times !

On arrival in Swansea, the girls and parents had a few hours to explore with some opting for shopping and others headed for the beach, the U11's on the beach quickly went off to explore and before long were a dot on the horizon but they soon returned once they had found the soggiest, wettest part of the beach; not a good look on white trainers ! After the beach we all met up again and the girls enjoyed a session in Swansea's LC Swimming pool with flumes and a wave machine.

Gold and Glamour was our theme for the weekend and Saturday night saw everyone suitably dressed, where we then all enjoyed a great night in the restaurant.

Sunday morning, after breakfast we all departed and headed to Gowerton RFC a short 30minute drive away. The older girls got to watch the U11's and were great supporting and encouraging the younger minxes, before long it was 12:30 and time for their kick off. Playing in Wales meant we had to adhere to WRU rules; 15 aside on a full size pitch, 8 man scrums (we insisted were uncontested) and line outs all new stuff to our U13's. It was a steep learning curve and the minxes appeared a little shell shocked as the Welsh girls powered through bouncing our girls out of the way including some might hand offs ! Despite some emotional moments the minxes didn't let their heads go down and kept on battling and when the first try came you would have thought we had won with the cheers on the side lines .

All of the girls should feel really proud of their achievement as this was by far their toughest game of the season but one that will hold them in good stead as some of them move up to U15's next season.

Thanks to Swansea Hawks and everyone at Gowerton RFC for hosting us and making the tour possible.
