This weekend the Minxes travelled to Mansfield RUFC.
Mansfield have been blessed with a great influx of girls eager to learn and play rugby and with numbers into the high 20’s the format for the day was for Melbourne to play a game against the Mansfield first team, whilst the remainder of the Mansfield girls played and trained amongst themselves.
Then afterwards we aimed to mix everyone up and play a mini tournament with four teams of ten all playing each other.
To say the weather was miserable would have been an understatement, but as a constant drizzle fell, (The sort that soaks you to your core), the main event kicked off.
It was a fierce pace and ferocity that met the Minxes straight from the kick off.
A great spectacle of Defence and Attack, Passing and Tackling from both teams set at a breath taking pace made for a great spectacle for the biggest attendance of the year so far of home and travelling supporters to enjoy.
You couldn’t take your eyes off the game for one minute for fear of missing something.
This breakneck pace continued throughout the whole of what was a low scoring game in which saw the Minxes only score one try.
It came from an excellent move as the girls went from defending on their own line and forcing a turnover to scoring in the corner at the other end where the ball passed through every Minxes hands with some great passes and quality offloads, to culminate in Delia grounding the ball to tie the game.
The score stayed one a piece until the final whistle.
The girls then split up and had fun playing in Baa baas style teams and treating the fans with a plethora of tries and some very entertaining flowing end to end Rugby.
A great day was had by all and a big thanks and well done needs to go to Mansfield RUFC.
