Trys - Chris Rudkin, Jordan Gale and Will Kilgour 2 conversion Rob Foster

Melbourne 2s travelled to Lincoln as part of a large senior squad to face a strong Lincoln 2s. A number of faces within the squad were familar from the earlier match that had been played at home.

The game was played in a highly competitive environment enjoyed by all.

The first twenty minutes were Lincolns as their direct running and noticeable size difference led to them gaining early dominance as Melbourne took time to adapt to the physicality and weather conditions. Lincoln scored two early tries through dominating the scrum and tight play.

As the game wore on Melbourne switch tactics and rectified their sloppy defence. This saw a marked improvement in their defence and ability to take on Lincoln. It was from a line out that quick ball to Jordan Gale set-up a maul for Chris Rudkin to secure and drive forward with a powerful maul dotting down wide right of the posts.

Soon after excellent link play saw the lively Will Kilgour ghost through space in the opposition centre pairings and sprint him from just inside the Melbourne host despite the interests of the Lincoln covering defence, scoring centrally for an easy (ish) conversion.

The second half was a much more balanced affair, conditions deteriorated but both sides continued to push for scores and didnt let the cold and wet affect their spirit or intentions.

A superb line and piece of skill saw Rob (sonny bill Williams) try a reverse outback pass to Jordan Gale who ran at angle to split the defence and gallop home in the wake of several would be tacklers. The score was once again converted.

This left the game tied at 19-19 setting up an exciting finish. Melbourne had the lions share of possession but couldn't crack Lincolns defence leaving the game as even spoils for both sides.

Considering the age of this young 2s team, the management of the game and resilience shown was testament to the players character and ability. Their is a bright future at Melbourne and the pride to wear the green&gold was obvious for all to see.
