Melbourne Rugby Club established a full girls squad in 2004 and now runs an Under 10s (school years 5 and below), an Under 13s (school years 6-8), an Under 15s (school years 9 and 10) and an Under 18s (school years 11-13)

Girls rugby is seen as part of the RFU which obsorbed the RFUW in 2012 but it doesn't follow the age grades asociated with the boys game. The Under 10s play a touch rugby version of the Under 13s game, which avoids the complications of lineouts and plays a 3 player scrum (which all players are expected to be able to do). The Under 13s has the benefit of offering girls the opportunity to tackle with the option to grab the player, this will cause the ref to call tackle where the ball carrier has to pass and 1 person rucks. The Under 15s is the next step up and has all the things a full adult game has except lifting in the lineout and 15 players. The Under 18s is the game in all its glory, scrums, lifting in lineouts and full contact tackles.

Melbourne Minxes have several coaches at each age group, all CRB checked and the club benefit from having coaches such as Roger Llyod and Tim Boyse who have been involved with the girls side of the game for more years than they would like to admit.

All age groups hold mid-week training aswell as training and playing on Sundays.
