All MAC v Market Bosworth (u14)

U14s All MAC’s vs Market Bosworth 24/09/23 hosted at Ashby

This was the first match of the season for the girls and, the first chance for the new U14 squad to play together. If Carlsberg did starts to a season…,
Ellie kicked off the match with Market Bosworth receiving. They were quickly challenged with a strong tackle by Lou Lou.

A Market Bosworth scrum was followed by a knock- on close to the line. Evie passed to Lucy D who passed to Eve who scored the first try of the match.
Lou Lou took the conversion kicks for the match in very windy conditions ( at one point blowing the ball off the kicking tee) and managed to successfully convert 3 of them.

Play restarted and Grace made a fantastic run to score the second try.

Lottie then received the ball confidently and passed to Grace who went on to score again.
Again All MAC’s were receiving and this time Evie caught the ball which was passed to Ellie who scored the 4th try for the All MACs.

All MACs received but gave away a penalty and Market Bosworth kicked the ball out for a line out. They won the line out but it was quickly followed by a knock on leading to a MAC scrum. Our girls scrum was strong throughout the match- in the second half Martha did really well in the scrum at number 6.
Olive L cleared the ball, Aleya made good ground before she was bought down. Ellie took possession and almost made it to the line but, in their efforts to stop her, Market Bosworth made a high tackle and All MACs were awarded a penalty try.
Market Bosworth made some progress but Eve bought their player down and Evie, Lou Lou and Kyla gained back some ground. There was a penalty against All MACs for crossing and MB kicked it out for a line out. Lottie won the ball, MB defended well tackling each time as the ball moved to Olive N, Lucy, Aleya and back to Olive N, MB hands were in the ruck so All MAC went for a line out.
Kyla threw in and MB won possession but very quickly an All Mac scrum was awarded. Olive L picked and ran, passing to Evie then to Lou Lou and back to Olive L who was tackled out into touch and the half-time whistle sounded. The score was 31-0.
The second half started confidently with Evie, Aleya, Izzy, Ellie and Daisy getting in good runs but receiving hard tackles. Harriett came on for second half and was quick to break down and not afraid to get stuck in, she was up to match speed quickly.
Olive L passed the ball out to Lucy D who made a fantastic run swarmed by MB players who managed to take possession very close to the line and kick it out. Evie gained possession and passed to Eve who sprinted to the line for the first try of the second half.
Unfortunately injury meant that MB were a player down and Scarlett very kindly offered to play for the opposition.

When play resumed it was Kyla who caught the kick but was swiftly tackled, good ball carrying by Maisie and Aleya moved play forward but, was she tackled with the ball then going from Kyla to Evie to Ellie and finally to Daisy who scored the 6th try of the match.
Evie received the ball and made a good run but was bought down and, MB gained possession. All MACs fought hard to regain the ball with some great tackling by Kyla, Lou Lou and Evie. There followed some great passing between the girls but, a knock on resulted in a MB scrum.

Two more scrums followed with both sides trying hard to gain ground then the MB number 9 made a run for it hotly pursued by Evie who tackled well. Ellie pushed them into touch and a line out was awarded.

Kyla, Grace and Ellie made some good tackles with Olive N getting the ball and making a ( nearly ) full pitch length run to score a try.

The MB kick was caught by Lucy B who was immediately under heavy pressure by MB who took possession. Isabel tackled followed by Ellie who made a great run from the halfway line pursued by MB number 12 to score another try.

Lucy D caught the ball this time and made a great run but was bought down by MB number 13. An All MAC scrum followed with Lou Lou making a fantastic run before passing to Isabel, then Olive and out to Grace who was bought down by Scarlett ( playing for MB) near the line.
Ley caught the MB kick but they managed to gain possession and made a great run chased all the way to the line by Lucy D. The successful conversion kick was the last play of the game
Final score 53-7
Usually a player of the match is awarded but coach Dan could not choose today as every single player excelled themselves and worked together so well.
Excellent work girls, it was a pleasure to watch - long may it continue
