Contact loving Minxes were tested as they looked to help developing Market Harborough

The trip to Market Harborough during a half term was a tricky one but the girls and parents made their way to face a side different to those we see most weeks at the RFU Cup festivals.

On arrival it seems that a few of our parents got lost, 1 parent who may have made their way back home in the frustrations of the satnav but the girls didn't care, they just wanted to play or at least until Nick told them it was grab tackles. Market Harborough are still building their squad and are using a similar format to that used by ourselves with the Mini Minxes.

1st Match
Slow, confused, not too sure, inspiring would be a correct way to explain this match. Slow because the girls were being grabbed and made to pass. Confused because the girls were punching holes in the defence but having to pass when grabbed. Not too sure because the game being played was not what they were used to. Inspiring because the girls were forced to think on their feet, they had a problem because their effective game plan was not going to get them the win in this game so they searched for other ways to win.

2nd Match
Click, the girls suddenly saw the answer and started to mix their beautiful pop passing offloads with beautiful runs into space created by the offloads. The girls sucked in the defence, who felt the only way fo stopping our girls was to tackle in numbers, only for a support runner to find the space created and hit it at pace. Conditioning on who could school and where they could score forced the girls to problem solve and create a more athlete centered approach to the match for our girls.

3rd Match
Fitness seemed to play a part in the 3rd game after some seriously hard work from the girls in the first two matches. This was not only due to the need to run the ball in attack, deal with the different tactics forced onto the players from the opposition but the coach too but also to chase some of Market Harboroughs quick footed players who grew in confidence.
