Impressive win for the Minxes

The Minxes first match saw all three age groups head to Doncaster but the impressive stadium didn't put our girls off. To even up numbers a very nervous Ellie-May Woodland was kind enough to play the first half for Doncaster and she them proud. She was able to bark orders offering the Doncaster girls some guidance and support giving them structure.

The game started well with the girls running strong lines through the defence and looking for the supporting player who seemed to be there no matter which way the ball carrier turned. This lead to a string of tries with no replies from Doncaster. Everything that we have asked the girls to work on so far in training this season the girls brought to the match, even Skye Sloman ran forward and not on one of her mazy runs which saw her grab 3 of the tries. She even put in a shift for the Doncaster girls as they saw of their girls take a knock but our girls stepped up as we played 5 v their now 7.

Halle Parker stepped into the green and amber shirt for her first match and fitted in so well that it was difficult to see where she finished and Isabel Boyer finished. The two of them offered strength and power in our attack, grabbing 5 tries between them, which pathed the way for Yves Delaney to take the perfectly timed offloads and grab herself 2 tries.

The Doncaster girls kept coming at us and almost scored a try of their own but the young lady thought that the 22m line was the try line and we were able to pick up the ball and return the pressure.

In the second half Ellie-May swapped with Lauren Rickett and you could see her confidence had grown from the experience. The Doncaster girls now had grown in confidence too and with the addition of Lauren helping they were able to push our girls. Our fitness started to drop but considering we had played the majority of the match with 2 girls less it was not surprising. Lauren however seemed to find a little extra and she broke through our defensive line and ran half the pitch with 2 of our girls chasing to score herself a try.

The Doncaster girls were able to add 4 more to Laurens and they worked really hard to keep us out. Ellie-May managed to get within a meter of the Doncaster try line before one of their girls were able to catch her. Lauren not only scored against us but managed on several occasions managed to force our runners in to touch forcing us to find other ways to break through.

Chloe Domjan has only ever played touch rugby through the summer and it was interesting to see her play in her first match. She showed some great running and when she didn’t slow down she was able to grab herself 3 tries too. Leah Mitchell, who has come from the U10 Minxes into the U13s, took her first match as vice-captain doing what we expected from her. She made strong tackles to stop the attack, barked orders to keep our defensive line and played with a high tempo into the dying minutes.

We would like to thank the girls so much for their effort and hard work and congratulate them on getting their first win of the season.
