U13's lose, but never gave up!

Heart and commitment shown throughout.
We knew during the week that we would be short of numbers, but come this morning we were depleted to the bare minimum of 13 players. A quick re-shuffle of the team saw a couple of boys having to adapt to playing different positions. A strong wind blowing across the pitch didn't really bring an advantage to either team and a number of kicks went wayward to say the least! Southwell had arrived early from their trek down the country and were a well drilled side. Strong at the breakdown with some strong runners; Melbourne were 25 - 0 down at half-time. Melbourne were playing as a team, but some odd mistakes and sloppy tackling meant that a big hill had to be climbed come the second half. Unfortunately we lost a player just into the second half and Southwell kindly lent us a player. A slight hiatus then occurred with a lost gum shield, and the clock was stopped to help find it. Thankfully it was found in the bag of oranges................no name, no pack drill, but needless to say this won't be forgotten when we come to end of season 'awards'!! The boys stuck with it in the second half, but being too lateral in attack and poor tackling meant victory was not achievable. A big thank you to all the boys who played today, they stuck with it in challenging conditions, never gave up and scored the last try of the match. Fingers crossed we have a bigger squad next week!
