U13's lose in wet conditions to Derby RFC
By Richard Ireland
A game of four quarters!!
Melbourne U13's had their first experience of the large 4G pitch at Derby, and their Mother's appreciated the lack of mud given the rain!
The coaches delight in having more than 13 players at the start was quickly dashed with one player getting injured in the warm-up.
It was decided that the boys would play 4 quarters, to allow the large Derby squad to rotate all their players. A good start by Melbourne saw good line speed, pressure and tackles being put in all around the park. Then I'm not really sure what happened in quarter 2 and 3................Derby attacked wide and the intensity shown by Melbourne at the start seemed to disappear. A couple of further injuries saw us having to borrow a player for the last quarter; where Melbourne pride shone through with a strong finish to the game.
Lessons to be learnt,
- make sure you've got your white shirt, not one that is two sizes too small - Finlay
- remember a pair of trousers to change into after the game, shirt and leggings isn't a good look - Charlie
- if you lose your temper, channel your aggression and don't then run full tilt into the biggest lad on the park - Harry
Hope you've all now had time to dry out and get warm!
