Melbourne 2s 50 a 17 Keyworth Kurtos Surges to leading try scorer!

The management take no responsibility for this match report as it was written by Tony day and Booko, and handed to me on four sheets of loo paper, but I have translated it the best I can.

Match day 7 Melbourne took on Keyworth in the pennant, on paper and based on passed results it looked liked Melbourne would be favourites, but fielded a team missing some key individuals in key positions. With lots of back row, and front row cover missing, but with strong backs.

The teamed turned up in Keyworth with awful rainfall, and it looked like sticking around, fortunately a few minutes before kick off, the sun came out, Melbourne had 20 players and Keyworth only 13, so Melbourne agreed to lend them some. They looked for volunteers and Matt Walker and James Whitfield stepped forward (thanks)and Scott offered a 2nd half, (not bad for loan players)

Keyworth decided to kick first and straight from the kick off it was clear that they had 2 or 3 useful players but not as consistent as Melbourne, we had a few players in odd positions but we had some versatile players and our forwards were able to open it up to give our backs a run at the Keyworth defence. Booko (who wrote the report) picked up from a scrum and drove over but was adjudged to have taken two movements, we continued pressure and a quick pop pass from George to Bucko (Who wrote the report) who scored 5-0

Keyworth came back strongly and a powerful run by their 6 foot 10 giant at number 8 ended up with a converted try and Our James got the conversion (does this count in end of year scorers, I say it does)

Scott gave way to Joe Stuart who made an immediate impact running through the defence and scoring, converted by bucko (Who wrote the report) 12-7

Melbourne then became dominant and were stringing good plays together, with Al H, Jack and Scott creating gaps, for Alex and Kurtis which showed when Kurtis had a chance to score but just got dragged into touched. We then won a turnover and did the same play which ended up with Kurtis surging under the posts to score 19-7 converted by Booko (Who wrote the report) using dawsons boot as a kicking tea

Keyworth learnt that we were controlling the scrums, with great work with Jordan Ed and Pip, They then tried line outs which failed for the whole game with Will Butler turning over 90% of ball. However there 8 and 10 who were their best players ending up bundling over to make it 19-12. This hit hard attar all the hard graft but we refocused and great support play saw Tommy Line scored, Booko (Who wrote the report) converted 26-12

New player Andy Wiseall came on with some strong running on his debut and almost scored but was bundled into touch.

Due to the number 8’s size he was not all that mobile and worked out with Bucko (Who wrote the report) at number 8 peeling off gave us a good chance which paid off with another try converted by Bucko (Who wrote the report) 33-12

From this point on we were in control, we played to our strengths and great play from Al, Joe, Jack saw Kurtis go in again to score 38-12,

There were a few handling errors, by Keyworth, Joe Stuart broke through and off loaded to Kurtis who ran and passed to Jack Peace and was accused of show boating by the ref 43-12, big hits followed as Keyworth tired, notably by Al and Chris and Pip and Ed recycled good ball. Kurtis latched on to the ball, ran the length of the pitch and scored , converted by Bucko (Who wrote the report) 50-12. The last 10 minutes was a bit of a mess and Keyworth scored again to make the final score 50-17

All in all a great game, some noted positives
Will Butler in the line
Al and Chris big its
Great work in the front row
Joe Stuarts running
Bucko (Who wrote the report) and George working together
Liney running the backs
Kurtis Alex and Jack being dangerous
Good debut by Andy Wiseall
Great communication by everyone
Guy and Alex great in the back row
And George’s Distribution

Huge thanks to James Matt and Scott for helping out Keyworth they all played very well, they were very grateful

MVP Chris, or Booko (Who wrote the report), Forwards, and Backs Liney and AL, I go for Al based on nothing else but pure prejudice

No game this week back in league action the week after at home

We might be 2nd in the league?
