Melbourne 2s were emphatic winners in their first league outing against Ashfield 2s. a mix of experience youth combining well to play a wells structured game. Youth was in the form of John Cooke Rogers, Max Lowson, Jordan Gale, Jack Brough and Baden Ramage with experience of Rob Foster (Captain), Pop, Stringer and Tim Richardson.
The first half saw the green and gold take a 14 - 0 lead with Sam Hanock and Andy Martin scoring good tried with converted by Hancock. The most pleasing aspect was the continuity in the play with massive improvements in the structures and plays being employed by the green&gold. Melbourne were camped in the opposition 22 for most of the forty minutes and ideally should have made that possession count for more points.
The second half is where the difference was told with Melbourne scoring through Josh Mallet (x2), Jordan Sparkes and Tim Richardson with two out of four converted. However, there were moments of "switching off" gifting the opposition some easy points.
In summary, an excellent team performance with some great individual efforts including Sam Hancock, Jordan Gale, Cookie and Jack Brough.
