Try - Stringer and Tommy with 1 conversion and 1 penalty from Euan. MOTM - Will Judge

The game was played on a cool day with a strong breeze coming down the pitch. Melbourne played into the wind in the first half.
It was the first action for Melbourne for the best part of a month.
The wind dictated the pattern of play with most of it being in the downwind half.
The early exchanges were even. MM pack was physical but the Melbourne defence was up to it. MM shade the early scrums, taking one against the head only to knock on. Melbourne were penalised more at the breakdown seeming to have less time to compete for the ball than MM. Playing into the strong wind, Melbourne very rarely got out of their half.
After 17 minutes MM took a quick penalty and were held up on the line with Melbourne conceding a penalty. This resulted in a yellow card for Michael Lowery. MM took a quick tap only to knock on. Tommy Howard and Theo De Vies defended well after another MM half break, with MM conceding a penalty but the wind made it hard to clear territory.
After 27 minutes, the MM centre made a half break (from a forward pass) on the half way line, which resulted in a try in the corner. This was converted for 7-0.
Tommy Howard finally got some ball on the left win and a chip and chase so the MM attempted clearance kick charged down.
Finally on the stroke of half time, Theo had a quick tap and half break only for a penalty to be conceded. MM cleared but from the resulting lineout/Maul, Rob Hollingsworth stole the ball. Quick hands from will Judge and Euan Holden saw Ash Stringer finish powerfully. 7-5 half time.

The second half saw Melbourne pressurise for 15 minutes without scoring. Jacob Watts, Will Judge, Jack Fisher and Sam Stuart all went close but the final pass was missing and good positions were compounded by penalties being conceded time and time again. Melbourne were also held up over the line.
After 52 minutes MM scored form their first visit into the Melbourne half after some weak tackling. This was converted for a 14-5 scoreline. MM missed a penalty after 59 minutes too after a midfield offside.
Finally after 63 minutes Melbourne scored. Ash Stringer, who had made a couple of string runs with quite getting clear made a break from the ''PINKY'' move. Quick recycling saw Tommy Howard finish well. With Euan converting the score was 14-12.
After 70 minutes Theo was held up over the line. From the ensuing scrum Melbourne were penalised for feeding.
Shorty after Melbourne got a penalty in front of the posts and Euan slotted if to take the lead for the first time 15-14. MM had a chance to take the lead but missed a penalty,
Final score 15-14
Ian Master MOTM - Will Judge
Scrappy game but a win. Definitely rusty from the layoff.
Too many penalties conceded.
Stamford and Casual won too and Melbourne have both these teams at home in the next 3 weeks.
