Melbourne hosted Oadby Wygs, once again at the University of Derby due to the continued and unrelenting rain that has seen little rugby played at Cockshut Lane thus far this season. Melbourne squad assembled and had a youthful feel, as the green and gold continue to give opportunity to youth. George Dickinson and Max Lucas getting their first senior starts of the season at centre and second row respectively and Matt Suddaby getting his first senior start of the season. Despite the absentees and injuries Melbourne have continued to show persistence and resilience in their first season in Midlands 1 East.
The game was fierce and the two sides could not have been more contrasting with Oadby dominating the set piece and Melbourne the loose and open play. Melbourne's defence was superb with some stout tackles and resolute attitudes. Combined with good continuity in their play Melbourne can be proud of earning a bonus point in what was a very competitive game.
