20 Points for Euan
MOTM - impossible really but Mark Coyne nominated by coaches Matt D and Steve G
The 1st XV welcomed Spalding to Cockshut Lane at the end of October and turned in a vintage performance, winning 60-10. An early penalty started the scoring before Will Judge got the first Try. The lineout was smooth but scrum came under a bit of pressure for a big Spalding pack. Defence was resolute throughout and Melbourne’s young side were incisive in attack. JS scored out wide, Jack Pearce picked a sharp line to power over from short range. Half time was 25-3. Spalding started the second half strong and scored a converted to narrow the gap but that was the catalyst for the floodgates to open. Pagey and Euan ran the show with accurate passes to players taking the ball at pace and running great lines. Melbourne did not have it all their own way and to Spalding’s credit they battled away at Melbourne’s line for periods of the second half. Jack complete his hat trick with more powerful running, Judgey led the pack and got his second. Melbourne were happy to run the ball from deep inside their own 22. Pagey got 2 deserved late Trys supporting flowing moves. Euan contributes 20 points. MOTM Mark Coyne. Fair play to Spalding who never gave up – good bunch of lads.
