Melbourne got to play Bakewell at the 3rd time of asking, with the game being played in the mud at Matlock.
Melbourne fielded another much changed side with Lamin, Ballington, Bullock, Whitten, Cox and Cresswell of last years colts all starting. Add in youngsters Coyne, A Judge, Pearcey, Pagey, Joe Stuart, Danny Stanniforth, Tommy, Joe Nicholson, Andy Martin it was probably the youngest side ever fielded by Melbourne for a League game. Only old boys Judgey, Morris and Fossie were there to increase the average age.
There was a new set of water bottles
Conditions were heavy and sticky.
Melbourne had to defend early pressure from Bakewell, and went down 0-3 to an early penalty.
The rest of the first half was Bakewell playing a 10 man pick and go and Melbourne trying to attack with more width.
Handling was difficult for both sides but to their credit both sides went through multiple phases.
Tommy was held up just before half time
HT 0-3
It started raining
63 minutes saw a turnover and quick hands saw Tommy break clear and score in the corner.
72 minutes a moment of Pagey style after a Jack Pearce pick up from 8 saw Pagey score in the corner.
