League action resumes

Melbourne welcome Southwell to Cockshut Lane in a top versus bottom game – no predictions as usual.

Matt was given the choice of going first or second this week with predictions, choosing to go first. Pete finding it hard to disagree with more than one of those predictions.

Other fixtures this week.

Lincoln v Ilkeston
A good cup win last Saturday and the home venue for Lincoln. The odds may lie in their favour but Ilkeston have had a solid and reasonable campaign thus far including their away win at bottom Southwell but Matt see’s Lincoln taking the spoils. Pete fully in agreement hear with Lincoln’s solid home form. A home win in a tight game.

Long Eaton v Dronfield
Much like their weekly teamsheet Long Eaton have gained strength week to week. Is it a coincidence that following a slow start new faces have entered the fray - well their results have been impressive and they will put up a stern test for Dronfield away from home. Having hammered local rivals Ashby two weeks previous but losing to Camp HillI in the cup last week Long Eaton will be priming their regulars for a tough game. Dronfield are a solid and robust outfit though who can score points for fun. Matt is going against instinct and backing Dronfield as he sees experience being key to this battle. Pete – I cannot argue with Matt’s view here with Long Eaton seemingly recruiting from Notts Academy at will to strengthen – Hmmm. Both teams on a good run but a home win for me in this fixture

Loughborough v Ashby
Ashby will be licking their wounds following a heavy loss in the last round. Home form will play its part in this fixture and Loughborough have the size and skill to trouble Ashby. Home win. Loughborough strong at home. Ashby maybe struggling a bit after a good start. Home win.

Matlock v Newark
Could go either way but Matt thinks the bitter tones and loss to Melbourne will fester and the Peak District Club will come away with a strong performance and win against a less than confident Newark who have struggled for consistency and form. Big game here with 2 of the big clubs in the league. Newark started well but have now lost 4 on the bounce. Matlock always a strong outfit, especially at home. Matlock win in a tight game for Pete.

Rasen v Ashbourne
Once again Matt sees Rasen taking the points. Ashbourne are always a tough prospect and have reasonable form but Rasen will use home advantage and recent losses to try and bounce back. Cannot disagree with Matt again. Long trip for Ashbourne. Rasen will be happy after a good win at Newark and a week’s rest. Market Rasen win.

So, we differ on 1 game only the Long Eaton v Dronfield game. Can Matt steal one back?

Review on Monday.
